What we do if a Kansas City move runs long
We agree the extra hours. We do not invent a fee. How we handle a Kansas City day that goes past the clock we wrote.
If it runs long, we talk. The number we wrote stays the number unless you add work and we agree it — or the access we were told is not the access we got. How long a local move takes is the expected day. What changes the price is why hours move. This page is the afternoon that got away. Two ZIP codes: Get my price. We will not write “licensed and insured.”
From [$XXX] an hour for two movers and a truck — two movers and a truck. A tip is not how you pay for surprise hours — tipping. [WHAT TIM WILL HONOUR] stays. [TIM'S DAMAGE POLICY] stays. I quote it — about.
What we do first
- Say the hour count out loud before we keep going
- Name what changed — loose rooms, a sit that failed, a piano that was not on the sheet
- Ask whether we finish today, split, or load a local unit — storage, local only
- Not invent a “overtime multiplier” on the stair
- Not leave a half-loaded truck because the next job is prettier
If the HOA window ends, the window ends — HOA, elevator reservations. If the keys never showed, that is keys late, not a long job — keys late. If funding slipped, that is closing day — closing day. After you request a price, the date is yours when we said it was — after you request a price.
Why days actually run long
Packing still undone — what to pack first, what movers need the week before. A truck that cannot sit — parking, long carry and shuttle. A piece that will not turn — furniture that will not turn, stairs and tight turns. Two people on a third-floor walk-up that needed three — when you need a third, how we staff three, walk-ups. Kids or pets in the path — kids and pets.
Awkward that appeared at 2 p.m.: pianos, safes, hot tubs, pool tables, china — piano moves, baby grand ([REAL JOB] stays). A “few rooms” that was the house — partial moves. A second pickup nobody wrote — split pickup. A smaller place that will not take the sofa — moving into a smaller place. Ice or rain that slowed the path — rain and ice, winter moving day. Heat — July and August.
What we will not do
We will not keep the meter running in silence. We will not dump the last rooms in the garage without asking — unless you booked a cleanout — when a cleanout is the job. We will not write interstate because the day got late. We will not invent insurance to cover a rush. A landlord walkthrough that started while we still had a truck is their clock — landlord walkthrough, moving out of a rental.
Same-day jobs have less slack — same-day. Month-end has the next crew already placed — month-end. If we have to come back, we will say what the board has. Weekend vs weekday: weekend vs weekday. School-year Monday still has to land — Lee's Summit school-year.
How to make a long day less likely
Photos of both sits — photos that get a written price. Video of the landing — video walkthrough. Walk when the turn is a guess — what a walkthrough looks like. What to tell us: what to tell us. Thin: how to thin out, what you are not taking. Four weeks: four weeks. Morning-of: moving-day morning.
Pack the spare rooms. Kitchen last — how to pack a kitchen. Per box: standard $10–20, wardrobe $25–30, dish pack $30–40 — packing. Labels: how to label boxes. Living room, dining, bedroom, bathroom, kids, office: living room, dining room, bedroom, bathroom, kids’ rooms, home office. Fridge, washer, beds: fridge prep, washer and dryer, beds. What stays off the truck: what not to put on the truck. Pad and wrap: how we pad and wrap. Labour only still needs a true list — labour-only.

Frequently asked questions
Do you charge extra automatically after eight hours?
We charge the hours we work, agreed. We do not invent an overtime multiplier on this page.
Will you leave if you have another job?
We will say if the board forces a split. We will not vanish mid-load without talking.
The house was not packed.
That is hours. We will say finish, pack what you booked, or come back. See what to pack first.
Can we finish tomorrow?
Ask. Month-end Saturdays may already be gone. See after you request a price.
Is a tip how I cover a long day?
No. Hours are hours. A tip is optional. See tipping.
We will say the hour before we keep going
Two ZIP codes and an honest list. If the day runs long, we agree the extra work — we do not invent a fee on the stair.
