First apartment move in Kansas City

A studio or one-bed, a U-Haul you may not need, and stairs you have not measured. How we run a first Kansas City apartment move — not a lecture.

A first apartment move is still a local job. The difference is you have not hired a crew before, and the stair is usually the thing nobody measured. Walk-up apartment moves is the flights. Moving out of a rental is a different clock — lease-end, deposit, landlord. This page is the first place. Two ZIP codes: Get my price.

From [$XXX] an hour for two movers and a truck — two movers and a truck. A studio is not automatically cheaper than a one-bed if the truck cannot sit and the sofa will not turn. Compare the same list: how to compare hourly quotes. We will not write “licensed and insured.”

Truck, labour only, or friends and a van

  • Our truck and two people — the starting line for most first apartments
  • Labour only if you already booked a rental — labour-only. Your sit, your insurance on that truck, our hands
  • A parent’s SUV for clothes and a crew for the sofa — say what is on which vehicle
  • Same-day because the lease starts tomorrow is the least likely yes — same-day

We will not pretend a 26-footer is the right box for a Midtown curb — parking, Midtown, Plaza, Westport, long carry and shuttle. Elevator if the building has one: you book it — elevator reservations, HOA. Town home or stacked flat: town homes.

What first apartments forget to say

Floor count at both ends. A sofa that came up in pieces from a box. A fridge that is yours, not the building’s — fridge prep. A mattress with no bag — mattress bags, beds. Clothes in garbage bags — wardrobe boxes vs drawers. What is not coming: roommate’s couch, landlord’s blinds — what you are not taking.

Photos of the stair and the curb beat “it’s a one-bed” — photos that get a written price. What to tell us: what to tell us before moving day. The week before: confirm the window — what movers need the week before. Morning-of: keys, a clear door, roommate off the path — moving-day morning, kids and pets.

Packing a first place

You can pack the easy rooms. Kitchen last if you still eat there — how to pack a kitchen, what to pack first. Per box if you book us: standard $10–20, wardrobe $25–30, dish pack $30–40 — packing. Labels: room on two sides — how to label boxes. Thin before we tape — how to thin out. Living room, bedroom, bathroom: living room, bedroom, bathroom.

What stays off the truck: paint leftover from a project, open bleach — what not to put on the truck. TVs: TVs. A cheap bookcase that will not turn is still a turn — furniture that will not turn, stairs and tight turns. We pad what will scratch — how we pad and wrap. White glove is usually the wrong product for a first studio — white glove vs standard.

Awkward is still awkward in 600 square feet

A piano in a first apartment happens more than people think — pianos, piano moves, baby grand ([REAL JOB] stays). A safesafes. China from a parent — china and glass, packing the dining room. Washer if you own it: washer and dryer. Garage storage unit as a first stop, local only: storage. We will not write an interstate hold because you are moving “home” after graduation.

The calendar is still the lease

Month-end and the first fill first — month-end. School-year if you are landing before Monday — Lee's Summit school-year. July and August heat on a third-floor walk-up: July and August. Ice: winter moving day, rain and ice. Weekend vs weekday: weekend vs weekday. Four weeks: four weeks. After the form: after you request a price. How long the day runs: how long a local move takes.

Kansas City walk-ups. Waldo. Northland. Independencesplit-levels. Raytown. Blue Springsgarage-first. Grandview71 corridor. Lee's Summit. Johnson County — mention only. Johnson County checklist. Live list: service areas. Houses and apartments. Offices if the “first apartment” is also a desk — office hours, home office. New construction: new-construction. Estate leftovers from a relative: estate and inherited. Cleanout if most of it is trash: when a cleanout is the job, cleanouts. Downsizing later: senior downsizing. Appliancesbasement washers. Hot tubs. Pool tables. Garage: garage, workshop. Kids’ rooms if it is not actually a first solo place: packing the kids’ rooms. How we quote: two ZIP codes. Compare: comparing Kansas City movers. Costs: what a Kansas City move costs. What changes the number: what changes the price.

From [$XXX] an hour. Most local jobs $1,200–$1,500 — a small apartment can come in under that if the access is honest. I quote it. About. Call (913) 957-9311. Google [X.X] · [XXX]. [REAL REVIEW]. [TIM'S DAMAGE POLICY]. [WHAT TIM WILL HONOUR]. [REGISTERED ENTITY NAME]. DOT/MC pending. No interstate. Contact. Privacy, cookies.

Frequently asked questions

Is a first apartment cheaper?

It can be. Stairs, no sit, and a sofa that will not turn still make the hours. Two ZIP codes and a photo of the stair.

Should I rent a truck and just hire you to load?

That is labour only. Your sit, your rental. See labour-only. We will say if the curb will take it.

My parents are helping with boxes.

Fine. Mark what is ours to carry. A mixed morning is how things get left in the hall.

The building has no elevator.

Say the floor. That is a walk-up. See walk-up apartment moves.

Lease starts the 1st.

Book early. The first fills. See month-end and first-of-the-month moves.
