How we staff a three-person crew
Two is the start. The third is a back on the stair or a pair of hands on the truck. How we put three people on a Kansas City job — not a random extra body.
Two movers and a truck is the starting line — two movers and a truck. A third is a person we place on purpose: the stair, the long carry, the piano, the packing line. When you need a third is the next page. This page is how we staff it. Two ZIP codes: Get my price. We will not write “licensed and insured.”
From [$XXX] an hour for two. Three is more hours of labour, not a hidden truck fee. I quote it and I am on most of them — about. The board has to have the third before we pretend two will do — what changes the price.
Where the third actually stands
- On the landing so a dresser does not hang in the well — stairs and tight turns, walk-ups
- On a long carry so two are not making empty return trips — long carry and shuttle
- On the piece: piano, safe, hot tub, pool table
- On packing if you booked rooms and the load still has to move — packing
- On the truck so the path stays fed — not three people in the same doorway
A third who stands in the kitchen watching is not a third we will write. Photos and a walk tell us which spot — photos that get a written price, what a walkthrough looks like, video walkthrough. Furniture that will not turn still will not turn with three — furniture that will not turn. It just fails slower.
The board has to have the person
Month-end and school Saturdays fill three-person days first — month-end, Lee's Summit school-year, July and August. Same-day with a third we do not have is a no — same-day. After you request a price, the crew is yours when we say it is — after you request a price. The week before: if the piano appeared, say so — what movers need the week before, what to tell us.
Weekend vs weekday can be the difference between three and “we only have two” — weekend vs weekday. Four weeks is when we can still place people — four weeks. Closing day with a third waiting on a wire is hours — closing day. Keys late: we will not idle three in the drive — keys late.
Jobs that are usually three
Piano moves, baby grand ([REAL JOB] stays). Safes. Hot tub moves. Pool table moves. A china cabinet on a landing plus a house load — china and glass. White glove on a larger house — white glove vs standard. Basement washer that has never come up plus a split-level — basement washers, Independence split-levels. Town home switchback — town homes. Elevator plus a long bay — elevator reservations.
Split pickup with two sits and a piano at the first — split pickup. A smaller place that still has the ranch sectional — moving into a smaller place. Estate unmarked plus awkward — estate and inherited. Labour only on a walk-up can still be three — labour-only. How long the day runs: how long a local move takes.
Two can still be honest
A one-bed with a straight path. A ranch in Raytown with no walk-out surprise — ranch. A boxed storage load — storage. A few rooms that are actually a few rooms — partial moves. First apartment with no piano — first apartment. We will not sell a third to look busy.
Parking still decides whether three people have a truck to feed — parking. HOA window: HOA. Garage-first can keep the third off a street carry — Blue Springs garage-first, garage as a room. Ice: three does not make glass safe — winter moving day, rain and ice. Heat on a third-floor walk-up is why the third exists in August — July and August.
Packing and the third pair of hands
If we are packing and loading the same morning, the third may be boxes, not the stair. Per box: standard $10–20, wardrobe $25–30, dish pack $30–40. Kitchen: how to pack a kitchen. What to pack first: what to pack first. Living room, dining, bedroom, bathroom, kids, office: living room, dining room, bedroom, bathroom, kids’ rooms, home office. Labels: how to label boxes. Wardrobes vs drawers: wardrobe boxes vs drawers. Workshop: workshop. Fridge, washer, beds: fridge prep, washer and dryer, beds, mattress bags. What stays off the truck: what not to put on the truck. Pad and wrap: how we pad and wrap. Thin first: how to thin out, what you are not taking.

Frequently asked questions
Do you always send three?
No. Two is the start. We add a third when the stair, the carry, or the piece needs it.
Is the third more per hour?
It is more labour on the clock. We will write it. Not a hidden truck fee.
Can I supply a friend as the third?
Your friend is not on our crew. We will not count them as a mover we staffed.
Who is the third?
Someone we placed for that job. I am on most of them. See about.
When do I know I need one?
The next page is when you need a third. This page is how we staff the one we already wrote.
Tell us the stair and the awkward list
Two ZIP codes and whether the landing needs a third back. We will write two or three before we park.
