Long carry and shuttle truck in Kansas City
When the 26-footer cannot sit at the door. A smaller box, more trips, or a two-block walk — how we price a Kansas City shuttle or long carry.
A long carry is the walk from the truck to the door. A shuttle is a smaller truck, or more trips, because the street will not take the box we would rather use. Parking and permits is where the truck sits. This page is what we do when it cannot sit close. Two ZIP codes: Get my price.
From [$XXX] an hour for two movers and a truck — two movers and a truck. A shuttle is more hours, not a hidden truck fee we invent here. We will write it before we force a 26-footer into a row of mailboxes — what changes the price. Compare the same curb: how to compare hourly quotes.
When we call it a long carry
- A Grandview lot off 71 — house far from the street — 71 corridor
- A visitor bay and a shared hall — town homes and condos
- A fire lane or a full meter row — Midtown, Plaza, Westport
- Brick that will not take the long box — Waldo
- A cul-de-sac that will not reverse a 26-footer — Northland, Lee's Summit
- Johnson County setbacks that hold the truck at the street — mention only. Johnson County checklist
A photo from the street to the door is the quote — photos that get a written price. How ZIPs start the question: how we quote from two ZIP codes. Tell us the week before if a dumpster ate the sit — what movers need the week before.
When we call it a shuttle
Shuttle means we cannot put the load truck at the door. We use a smaller box for the last stretch, or we run the same truck in extra trips from a legal sit. It is still a local Kansas City day. It is not an interstate relay and we will not write one. Your rental on a labour-only job is still your sit — labour only, labour-only.
A reserved freight lift with a truck two blocks away is both problems — elevator reservations, HOA. A walk-up with no legal curb is a shuttle plus stairs — walk-ups, stairs and tight turns. How long that day runs: how long a local move takes.
Weather and the walk
Rain on a Grandview lot is slower. Ice on that same walk is a delay — rain and ice, winter moving day. Heat on a two-block carry in August is the other clock — July and August. We drink water. We do not pretend the hour count is a ranch with the truck at the garage.
Garage-first can kill a street carry if the bay is empty and the door will take the truck — Blue Springs garage-first, garage as a room. A full garage is a room we pack first, then a carry — workshop, what to pack first.
Awkward pieces on a long walk
A piano two blocks is a different crew than a piano at the porch — pianos, piano moves, baby grand ([REAL JOB] stays). A safe on a long carry — safes. Hot tubs already want a path; add distance and we will say so — hot tub moves. Pool tables — slate does not like extra trips — pool table moves. China — china and glass. Furniture that will not turn at the door after a long carry is two problems — furniture that will not turn.
Appliances — washers. White glove on a long carry is more time, not a different van — white glove vs standard. Beds and TVs still need a name — beds, TVs. Label boxes so the extra trip still lands in the right room — how to label boxes.
Packing does not shorten the walk
Loose bags on a two-block carry are how you pay twice. Per box: standard $10–20, wardrobe $25–30, dish pack $30–40 — packing. Kitchen: how to pack a kitchen. Living room, bedroom, bathroom, kids, office: living room, bedroom, bathroom, kids’ rooms, home office. What is not coming: what you are not taking. What stays off the truck: what not to put on the truck. A house that is still a pile is closer to when a cleanout is the job and cleanouts.
Both ends, not just the pretty porch
The unload sit is often the one that fails. New construction with no pad: new-construction. Storage as a middle stop, local only: storage. We will not write an interstate hold because the curb was tight. Month-end fills the legal sits — month-end. School-year Saturdays: Lee's Summit school-year. Same-day with no curb: same-day. Weekend vs weekday: weekend vs weekday. Four weeks: four weeks. After the form: after you request a price. What to tell us: what to tell us. Morning-of: moving-day morning. Kids and pets off the walk — kids and pets.
Kansas City. Independence — split-levels. Raytown — ranch and basement. Blue Springs. Lee's Summit. Live list: service areas. Houses and apartments. Offices — office hours. Downsizing: senior downsizing. Compare: comparing Kansas City movers. Costs: what a Kansas City move costs.

Frequently asked questions
Is a shuttle a second truck fee?
It is hours. Smaller box or extra trips. We will write it before we force the long truck.
How far is a long carry?
Far enough that the hour count is not a door-to-truck ranch. A photo from the street is the answer.
Can we skip the shuttle if we book a weekday?
Sometimes the curb is emptier. The lot length does not change. See weekend vs weekday and parking.
Labour only — is the carry ours?
Your rental, your sit. If the truck cannot get close, the walk is still the walk. See labour-only.
The other end is a long lot too.
Say both. The unload sit is often the one that fails.

Two ZIP codes and both sits. We will write a smaller box, more trips, or the carry — before we park a 26-footer where it will not fit.
