Compare the same job, not the cheapest hour. What to ask so the written number matches the house you actually have.
A cheap hour that ignored the piano is not a cheap move. Compare quotes on the same scope: the same two addresses, the same stairs, the same packing, the same awkward list. That is the whole method. The numbers we already publish — $1,200–$1,500 for most local jobs, $3,000–$4,000 with full packing — are in what changes the price.

Put every quote on the same sheet
- Both ZIP codes, or both full addresses
- Size of the place
- Stairs, lift, or a long carry — at both ends
- Packing included or not, and which rooms
- Piano, hot tub, safe, china cabinet listed, not assumed
- Appliances disconnect and hookup included or not
- Who quoted it, and whether that person is on the job
If one number is much lower, find the missing row before you assume it is the better value. The like-for-like habit is the same one we use on the cost guide.
Questions that actually change the job
Who picks up the phone? When you ring (816) 299-7989 it is me — about. Ask the other company the same thing. A dispatcher who has never seen the house is how a walk-up gets two people and a surprise.
Is the price written? Does it move on the day unless you add work and agree it first? That is the third line of our promise. Ask them to put access and the awkward list on the page, not in a verbal “we’ll see.”
What we will not use to compete
We will not write “licensed and insured” or an insurance figure. We will not publish interstate or long-distance work until the DOT/MC letter is in. We will not fill reviews with sample quotes.

You can send the same photos and the same list to anyone. We will price that list. We will not write their quote for them.
What if they will not put packing on paper?
