Packing a bathroom

Liquids upright, meds in your car, mirrors off the wall. How we pack a Kansas City bathroom — or how you do it the night before.

ARTICLE IMAGE

A bathroom is small and it leaks. Open shampoo in a grocery bag is how a wardrobe smells for a week. Meds and the first-night kit stay in your car, not on the truck. The rest is standard boxes at $10–20 on packing — not dish packs unless you have glass shelves.

If you would rather not do it, say which bathrooms. Per box, same as the kitchen split: you do the easy room, we do the glass. Kitchen method: how to pack a kitchen. Two ZIP codes: Get my price.

What to pull before anything else

  • Prescriptions, glasses, and anything you need tomorrow — in your bag, not a box
  • Open liquids — zip bags, lids tight, upright, a towel in the bottom of the carton
  • Razors and scissors wrapped, same honesty as kitchen knives
  • A first-night kit: towels, soap, toilet paper, one change
  • Jewelry from a vanity drawer — what you are not taking if it is staying

Do not leave a half-used bleach bottle standing in a thin box next to towels. If you would not put it in your own trunk loose, bag it or leave it — paint and chemicals are not a bathroom box. A later post covers what not to put on the truck.

Mirrors, glass shelves, the medicine cabinet

A wall mirror is not a picture frame. Off the wall, corners padded, a hard layer. Glass shelves out of a medicine cabinet — same three-layer habit as a china cabinet. Method: china cabinet and glass. We will pack that if you want. Do not wrap a full-length mirror in a blanket and lean it on a sofa.

White glove is more wrap on the rest of the house, not a different bathroom. Compare: white glove vs a standard house move.

Towels and the linen closet

Towels are padding and a box. Use them around bottles. A linen closet is a bedroom problem — packing a bedroom and closet — if it is hangers and winter coats. If it is sheets and extra TP, standard boxes, do not overfill.

Walk-ups, ranches, town homes

A walk-up bathroom has no staging floor. Pack it in the hall or we will. A Raytown ranch often has a basement bath that has not been used since the washer went in — say if it is coming. A town home powder room off the visitor-bay hall still leaks if you skip the zip bags.

Rain on moving morning does not mix with open toiletries on a porch — rain and ice moves. Finish under a roof. Morning-of: moving-day morning.

When we pack it

Leave the last towel and a roll of paper out. We will box the rest. A typical hall bath is a few standard boxes, not a kitchen’s six dish packs. Full-house packing still sits in the $3,000–$4,000 band; doing bathrooms yourself is how you stay closer to $1,200–$1,500 labour — what changes the price.

Labour only means the bottles are already boxed. We are not bagging shampoo at 9am. More: labour-only moving. Johnson County HOA clocks: do not leave two baths until the night before — Johnson County house move checklist. Kansas pages unpublished. ZIP codes or the phone. Live list: service areas.

I quote it — about. Call (913) 957-9311. From [$XXX] an hour for two movers and a truck. We will not write “licensed and insured.” Google stays [X.X] · [XXX] reviews. Book in the four weeks if you can.

Frequently asked questions

Can liquids go on the truck?

Sealed, bagged, upright, in a box you can stand. Open bleach and paint are a no. Meds stay with you.

Who takes the mirror off the wall?

We will if we agreed it. A glued-on medicine cabinet is a different conversation — say so.

Can you pack only the bathrooms?

Yes. Write which ones. Per box.

What about the half-bath nobody uses?

Still liquids and a mirror. Say if it is empty. An empty room is a photo, not a guess.
