A ranch looks easy from the street. One floor of living. Then the basement stairs — steep, narrow, a turn at the bottom that was never meant to give a washer back. The living rooms load like a house. The basement is a second job on the same clock.

The washer that has always been down there

Narrow drives. Neighbours parked on both sides. A 26-footer that looked fine on 350 will not fold into a lot that was platted for a sedan. We plan the truck before we plan the sofa. Low garage doors are the other Raytown habit. Measure height. A ranch garage that takes a car will not always take a stacked load on a dolly. We would rather hear that in the photo than at the header.

Labour only is on this suburb for a reason
