Basement washers and appliance moves in Kansas City
Washers, dryers, refrigerators and freezers disconnected, moved and hooked back up. The basement flight is what changes the crew.
A washer that has lived in the basement since the house was bought is not “a box by the door.” It has to come up a flight that was never drawn for it, sit on a truck, and go back on the taps at the other end. That is appliances — disconnected, moved, hooked back up.
Tell us what you have when you ask for a price. Two ZIP codes start it on Get my price. The basement note is one of the things that changes a Kansas City price.
What counts as the appliance list
- Washers and dryers — especially basement or garage laundry
- Refrigerators and freezers — how long they can stay shut off
- Ranges and dishwashers if they are coming
- Window units only if you say so; we do not assume
Hookup is part of the job, not an extra we invent on the landing. If the new place has different fittings, say so. We will tell you what we can do and what needs a plumber or an electrician.
The basement flight
Mid-century ranches in Raytown and Grandview put laundry downstairs as a habit. Tight turns. Low headroom. A door that opens the wrong way. We would rather see a photo of the stair than guess from “three bed, one bath.”
Same rule as a walk-up apartment: the path is the job. A first-floor laundry in a new Lee’s Summit build is a different hour count than a 1960s basement with a dog-leg stair.
Fridges and freezers
Empty what you can. Defrost if it is a freezer that ices up. Keep it shut as long as the day allows. At the other end it needs to stand before you plug it back — we will say how we handle that on the job, not in a generic blog promise.
A fridge on a third-floor walk-up turns the same corners as a sofa. Measure first. If it will not turn, we talk about it before it is jammed in the stair.
Inside a house move, or on their own
Most appliance work sits inside houses and apartments. A few items only is still two ZIPs and a list. Labour only is your truck and our hands — the machines still need disconnect and hookup if that is what you asked for. See labour-only moving.
The other heavy thing in the basement
A safe next to the washer is a different crew again. So is a piano if one is upstairs. Put both on the form. The week-two list in the four weeks before you move exists so we do not meet the safe on the morning.
Kansas side
Johnson County basements and long carries from a driveway that will not take the truck use the same appliance rules. Johnson County house move checklist covers HOA and access. Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa — we are there most weeks. Kansas suburb pages stay unpublished until authority is confirmed. Live areas: service areas.
Price
From [$XXX] an hour for two movers and a truck is the house-move starting point, not a basement-washer-only rate. You get a written number. I quote it and I am on most of them — about. Call (913) 957-9311 if it is faster to talk.
Frequently asked questions
Do you disconnect and hook up?
Yes, for washers, dryers, refrigerators and freezers as part of the appliance job. Unusual fittings may need a tradesperson. We will say so.
Should I empty the fridge?
Yes, as much as you can. A full fridge is weight and mess. Leave ice packs for the last few hours if you must.
What if the dryer vent is a problem at the new place?
Tell us what is there. We hook up what the fitting allows. A new vent through a wall is not a moving-day add-on we invent.
Can you take appliances and leave the furniture?
Yes. “Just a few items” is on the quote form. Stairs still matter.
