What you are not taking

Patient work. We will sort what goes and what does not with you. That line is on the suburb pages for a reason. A house move is the keep pile on a truck. A cleanout is empty-by-Friday. Mixing them on the morning is how the hour count moves without anyone agreeing it.

Decide the leave pile before we roll the first dolly. Two ZIP codes still start the keep job: Get my price. If the clock is a landlord’s Friday, call first — when a cleanout is the job.

Three piles, not two

• Goes on the truck — boxed or furniture we agreed
• Stays in the house for the next person, or stays yours in a room we will not enter
• Leaves some other way — donate, family, trash — before or after us, not as a surprise in the garage

Tape or a sticky note on the leave pile helps. We will not invent a charity drop or a dump run you did not book. We are movers. We will tell you if the job is mostly dump runs.

What usually should not go on our truck

Paint, fuel, and open chemicals are not a wardrobe box. Wet trash is not a mattress bag. A later post covers what not to put on the truck in more detail. Here: if you would not put it in your own car, ask before you leave it in the load path.

A piano you are not keeping is still a piano. Say whether it moves, stays, or is someone else’s pickup. Same for a safe, a hot tub, or a pool table. Leaving “we’ll decide on the day” is how a Raytown basement becomes a second job — Raytown ranch and basement moves.

Downsizing is still a house move

Grandview lists cleanouts for short notice and end of tenancy — Grandview and the 71 corridor — do not book that and mean a tidy Saturday keep pile.

Pack only what is coming

Do not dish-pack plates you are giving away. Per-box prices on packing assume the box is on the truck. Kitchen method: how to pack a kitchen. Closets: packing a bedroom and closet. Full packing toward $3,000–$4,000 is a waste if half the rooms are trash. Local keep moves still land $1,200–$1,500 for most jobs — what changes the price.
