How to number rooms for a Kansas City unload

Labelling a box “bedroom” is not enough when the new house has three of them. Number the destination rooms before we park, then put the same number on two sides of each carton. We walk a box to a door. We do not open a “misc” pile at dusk to guess which room you meant.

What to tape before we park

• A number on the destination door or jamb — kitchen 1, primary bedroom 2 — not a paragraph on the lid.
• The same number on two sides of the carton, with the room name.
• Someone at the new house who can point if two rooms share a name — who should be at each end.
• Albums, meds and jewelry still in the car, not numbered under a sofa — photo albums.
• Kids and pets out of the numbered hall — kids and pets.

Painter’s tape on a new-construction jamb still counts. Say which number is which unfinished room. If the destination is locked, numbers do not help — that is origin ready, destination not and keys late.

What we will not do with a floor plan

We will not invent your numbers at 6 p.m. We will not read a novel on the lid. We will not open every carton to guess. If dest rooms were unnamed, the clock still runs — what we do if it runs long. A third mover is for weight, not for a floor plan.
