Packing the garage workshop
Fasteners in closed boxes, tools off the pegboard, oil off the truck. How we pack a Kansas City workshop — after the bay is treated as a room.
The garage is a room. The workshop is how that room actually packs. Fasteners, a pegboard, half-used oil, a chest that weighs more than a dresser. Access and the door are the garage and shed are a room. This page is the boxes. Two ZIP codes: Get my price.
Paint, fuel, and open chemicals stay off the truck — what not to put on the truck. Drain the mower or say it is dry. We will not invent a hazmat run.
What to pack before we arrive
- Screws and nails in closed boxes or totes — not a rain of hardware on the floor
- Hand tools in a chest with the drawers taped, or in labelled cartons
- Pegboard empty; hooks in a bag taped to the board if the board is coming
- Extension cords coiled, not a nest under the bench
- Keep vs leave marked — what you are not taking
- A freezer in the bay on the appliances line if it is coming
Standard boxes $10–20 on packing. A tool chest is furniture, not a box. Photos of the bench and the door height beat “some tools” — photos that get a written price.
The chest and the bench
Heavy drawers stay in if the path is straight and the chest will take the weight. They come out if we have to tip it on a Raytown low header or a walk-up — same habit as a dresser. A built-in bench that is millwork stays unless you unbolt it. Say which.
A safe in the corner is not a toolbox — safes and gun safes. A hot tub behind the shed is a different crew.
Load order
Garage-first so the door stays a door — Blue Springs garage-first loading. Lee’s Summit packed-to-the-rafters bays are the same idea: Lee's Summit school-year moves. A shed at the back of a Grandview lot is a second carry after the workshop totes.
Into a storage unit: heavy first, path left open. Local only. Labour only still needs the hardware boxed — labour-only moving.
When we pack it
We will box a workshop if you booked it. Per box, not a vague “the garage.” A cleanout of forty years of jars is closer to when a cleanout is the job if the clock is empty-by-Friday. Downsizing: senior downsizing.
Kitchen and glass stay a different room — how to pack a kitchen. Morning-of: the bay empty enough to walk — moving-day morning. Rain: finish under a roof — rain and ice moves.
Price
A full workshop can move a $1,200–$1,500 local job as much as an extra bedroom — what changes the price. From [$XXX] an hour for two movers and a truck. I quote it — about. Call (913) 957-9311.
We will not write “licensed and insured.” Google stays [X.X] · [XXX] reviews. Compare the same bay — comparing Kansas City movers. Johnson County: Johnson County house move checklist. Kansas pages unpublished. Live list: service areas. Nearby: Kansas City, Independence, Blue Springs. Book in the four weeks if you can.
Frequently asked questions
Do you pack loose screws?
If we are packing the workshop, they go in closed boxes. Loose on the floor is how the last hour disappears.
The mower still has gas.
Drain it or say so. Fuel stays off the truck. See what not to put on the truck.
Can the chest go assembled?
If the door and the stair allow it. Photos of the header. We will say if drawers have to come out.
Is this the same as garage-first?
Garage-first is when we load. This page is how the workshop gets into boxes.
Put the workshop on the packing line
Chest, pegboard, and what stays off the truck. Two ZIP codes. We will write the number for the bay as well as the house.
